Why DELL Sucks ..

by Bharat on Apr.05, 2009, under Tech

Yet another controversial topic by me against the common belief. And yes the worlds number 2 selling Laptop maker sucks. Here’s why:

  1. Dell looks Ugly : Yes, dell does look ugly. None of their laptops or PCs actually look stylish and all look the same. It did try to make them look better by giving some color options but the ugly part is the design of the laptops.
  2. Order and Delivery sucks: Ohh, but want it the strong point. No, it isn’t. You can order online and customise, ohh that’s great but wait. what you need to wait a month to get your hands on the laptop/pc. I mean in computer industry where prices of hardware fall every day why the hell would i want to buy a laptop at the higher prices that were prevalent a month ago.
  3. Upgrades : Ya, upgrading your laptop is good from DELL online but, the prices are much more than market prices for upgrades of other Laptops. Dell sell 1gigs of RAM for around Rs2K($40) which is available in open market for less than Rs700($14). And also do add that extra shipping costs.
  4. After Sales: Wow, now that’s a stunner for many people. How can I question their after sales, I mean you call them once and that’s all. But, let me see the fine print here. You need at least a week for the service person to arrive and then around 3 weeks for him to repair and bring it back to you. All this could be done in any other  company in just 1 week.
  5. Others : And ya there a few more like you have to buy windows no option without MS, what if I want to install LINUX.

    Well about their after sales.
When i contacted dell that my laptop was not charging.
A service person came next day and he brought a new charger which solved the problem but
I got my entire motherboard replaced just to fix the mechanincal problem of the PCMCIA slot spring being broken which did not allow the Dell Travel remote to be stored as it could in the PCMCIA clot
and the motherboard was replaced in front of me in 30 mins.
No delays so i dont how you can say that they take 3 weeks when even for getting the motherboard replaced which is pretty much everything in a computer it just took 30 mins.

You are lucky. Enjoy while your warranty lasts.
and the motherboard that went out of your Laptop would make it to someone else.
My friend waited 2 weeks just to get the Dell guy to his house.
And i have other laptops too but none of them shows so many problems in first 2 years of their life.
but have seen lamost all the Dells motherboard changed within 1st year of purchase and thats pathetic.

    goodbye Dell…

A long story, and one many who have experienced poor service will relate to, but a little history first. About 6 years ago we purchased a Dell 4600, mainly because sharing the existing pre-2001 Dell XPS-something PC was becoming……
